This OECD working paper reviews the literature on gender differences in financial literacy to better understand their causes and consequences, as well as possible policy responses. In this document, research carried out to collect further evidence and case studies may help countries interested in the development and implementation of financial education programmes targeting women’s most vulnerable sub-groups.
This blog is operated by the coordinator of the GRUNDTVIG-project "Social Inclusion and Dignity in Old Age-Promoting participatory approaches to use reference budgets", looking at innovative initiatives and learning methods to strengthen the ability of older people to manage on a low income and checking how to use “reference budgets”. The purpose of this blog is to facilitate a discussion around european debates in the field of social inclusion and financial education of older people.

Results of the Eurosystem’s first Household Finance and Consumption Survey
The European Central Bank (ECB) was publishing the results of the first wave of
the Eurosystem Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS), a joint
Eurosystem project carried out with the support of national statistical
institutes of three euro area countries. The reference year for most country
surveys is 2010. The survey is the topic of the first two issues of a new
Statistics Paper Series launched by the ECB. The HFCS provides detailed
household-level data on various aspects of household balance sheets and related
economic and demographic variables, including income, voluntary pensions,
employment and measures of consumption.

ENGAGE Report on the gender gap in pension in the EU published
Women receive average pensions which are 39% lower compared
to those of men. This report develops a new indicator for gender equality, the
"Gender Pension Gap" which, together with the "Gender Pay
Gap", helps to assess the magnitude of gender inequality in the course of
people’s lives.
