Financial Education monitors progress by the governments of the world’s major economies in
implementing national strategies for improving financial education. It includes contributions by twenty one G20 member economies and invited
countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, People’s Republic of China,
France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, the
Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the
United Kingdom and the United States) as well as the European Union. (Chapter 23

Single Market”)
This blog is operated by the coordinator of the GRUNDTVIG-project "Social Inclusion and Dignity in Old Age-Promoting participatory approaches to use reference budgets", looking at innovative initiatives and learning methods to strengthen the ability of older people to manage on a low income and checking how to use “reference budgets”. The purpose of this blog is to facilitate a discussion around european debates in the field of social inclusion and financial education of older people.

Basic bank accounts for all
Anyone legally residing in the EU should have the right to open a basic payment account, and this right should not be denied on grounds of nationality or place of residence, said MEPs voting on draft EU legislation to this end on Thursday. Fees and rules for these accounts should be transparent and comparable, and it should be easy to switch to another basic account offering better terms, adds the text, which will now be fine-tuned with EU member states.

Social Innovation in Micro-Savings, Brussels, 9-10 September 2013
This major conference was held to disseminate the findings of a two-year project funded by the European Commission and organised in collaboration with the European Financial Inclusion Network. The project, Social Innovation in Micro-Savings - or SIMS - aimed to test and evaluate the effectiveness of various measures to encourage saving amongst low-income people, as a tool for social inclusion.

Household over-indebtedness in the EU: The role of informal debts, Eurofound (2013)
This policy
brief highlights findings on a specific topic from Eurofound’s European Quality
of Life Survey (EQLS) that is of particular interest from a policy perspective.
It brings results of the analysis of these data together with evidence from
other Eurofound projects to formulate a number of policy pointers. The focus of
